It is the first time since an event in 1991 in Orlando that a tournament will include an all-USA quarter-final position.
Michelsen came from behind to defeat France Adrian Mannarino 6-7 (0), 6-4, 6-2.
Frances Tiafoe with the second seed, Adam Walton, 7: 5, 6: 3, and Brandon Nakashima with the fourth seed Mackenzie McDonald made 6: 1, 7: 5 in an all-American matter.
Christopher Eubanks won his first set 6-1 before the Japanese eighth seed Sama Nishikori retired for injury.
The quarter -finals consists of Jenson Brooksby against Aleksandar Kovacevic, Tommy Paul against Colton Smith, Eubanks against Nakashima and Michelsen against Tiafoe.

Diallo had a 4-1 lead in Assen, but Baez saved 5 out of 9 breaks, while he converted 4 out of 6 break-point options.
No. 2 Seed Pedro Martinez of Spain gathered on the Swiss Wildkarte Stan Wawrinka 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, and Bosnia and Herzegowinas Damir Dzumhur was a 6-4, 3-6, 6: 3 winner over Romania Filip Cristian Jianu.
The Australian Christopher O’Connell stormed the fourth seed Nicolas Jarry von Chile 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (5)-and stormed from a 3-0 deficit in the third tiebreaker and Marton FucSovics from Hungary No. 7 Mariano Navone by Argentina 4-6, 6: 4.
