The Montreal Canadiens will continue their push for a playoff place when they visit the fighting Nashville Predators on Sunday.
The Canadiens (37-30-9, 83 points) arrive in Music City, which was extended on Saturday with a 3-2 home win against the Philadelphia Flyers with a 3-2 home win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Montreal scored 1-0 into the third period, but scored three consecutive goals to win.
“What we said was patient,” said striker Brendan Gallagher. “We knew that we had it in this room. We can score goals. Just stay patient, stay with our schedule.”
The Canadiens hold second place in the Eastern Conference and have a lead of four points to the New York Rangers in the race. Both clubs still have six games in the regular season.
Captain Nick Suzuki brought the winning streak to another level. Suzuki scored the gaming goal and a template and increased both his goal scoring and the scoring strips to four games in which he scored five goals and nine points.
“He is still young and plays with two young players,” said coach Martin St. Louis and referred to Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky. “If they all ripe and older, it only gets better. What is his blanket? I don’t know, but I don’t want to think about his blanket because I want him to dictate what this blanket will be.”
After a 5-1 defeat against the Dallas Stars, the Predators return home on Thursday, which leads their last loss of skid to five games.
Nashville (27-41-8, 62 points) has long been removed from the playoff dispute and had very little setback to end the season with a strong note or even play spoilers.
The predators had an overly familiar performance in this disappointing campaign when they bumped against the Dallas Stars.
“You are a really good offensive rush team, and we didn’t give them much in the first (time),” said striker Steven Stamkos about the last loss. “And then in half of the game you could see that we started turning a few pucks and feeding their hurry. It just felt like it was a matter of time before it burned us somehow, and it did.”
The coach of Nashville, Andrew Brunette, was not in training on Saturday due to a personal matter, and there was no word whether he would be back on time for the game with the team.
