FC United, just seven miles from Old Trafford, acts as a fan ownership unit and embodies a model of the supporters that Cantona has used for a long time, including in an interview 2022, in which he suggested that Manchester United fans could use essential participation in their club to mobilize social media to mobilize small individual contributions.
Cantona’s participation in FC United corresponds to his vocal resistance to the Glazer, which he criticized for prioritization of the profit against the inheritance of the club.
His co-owner was announced after a game on April 5, 2025, a 1-1 draw with Mickleover, and was encountered by FC United supporters with enthusiasm who see it as a boost for her mission.
In a video shared by the club, Cantona proudly urged himself to join the “Cantona Family” to FC United, and asked the fans worldwide to become members of this “Great Club” with a “great story”, despite its relatively young age.
In the meantime, the fans of Manchester United continued their protests against the Glaz. On March 9, 2025, thousands marched in front of a Premier League match against Arsenal to Old Trafford, which was organized by the 1958 fan group to decrypt increasing ticket prices, job cuts and the decline of the club on the field.
In the protest, banners such as “We want our club back” and “1 billion pounds” showed what pointed out the debt burden, which currently occurred from the financial strategy of the Glazers from the financial strategy of the Glazer.
And then there was a sit-in protest after the man UTD against Man City on Sunday, April 6, 2025, the game against Man City took place.
On March 24, 2025, FC United and the 1958 protest, which was called “United United Day” during FC United game against Stockton Town, and illuminated 20 years of Glazer ownership with torches and a “Glazers out”.
Cantona’s move and the ongoing protests underline a common desire for many fans to regain football from corporate control, with FC United serving as a symbolic counterpoint for the Glazers Manchester United.
