After the New York Islanders had approved the 895th goal of Alexander Ovechkin, they will continue their playoff chase if they visit Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

The eyes of the sports world had the 4-1 victory of the islanders against the Washington Capitals on Sunday because Ovechkin Wayne Gretzky said goodbye to the NHL list of the NHL. But the bigger goal was to win two points and New York never came in the game. The islanders already had a 2-0 lead when Ovechkin’s milestone came 7:26 in the second half.

Or like the islanders on X: “WSH goal. 2-1 #isles.”

“We knew what was at stake that it would be an exciting game … and only a great environment for the league and for her team,” said the captain of the Insulan, Captain Anders Lee. “And I think it was a perfect scenario to experience a pretty cool story and get the two points. Make it an unforgettable day for everyone involved. But at the end of the day we were, we needed victory.”

New York (34-32-10, 78 points) remains seven points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the Final Eastern Conference Wildcard Slot. The New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings sit between the islanders and the Habs in the overall ranking.

A 0-4-2-Dürre drastically put the islanders back in their post-season boost, but New York has won its last two games after this six-slide. The islanders are now looking for more success against one of the worst teams in the NHL, as they scored a season high for goals in their 7: 4 home win against the predators on March 1st.

Nashville (27-42-8, 62 points) did no favors to the islanders on Sunday in their playoff hunt when the predators dropped a 2-1 result for the Canadia. Despite an advantage of 37-17 shots, the Predators finally fell back after they had allowed two goals within 4:07 in the second period.

“The same story, different nights,” said Michael McCarron Nashville. “It was just really frustrating here to find ways to win games … We probably played 55 really good minutes tonight. We had a five-minute bearing there in the second half, they scored two goals and unfortunately were no longer able to get more.”

The predators have a defeat with six games and were exceeded by 23-10 via this period. This is the third time this season that Nashville is scattered in a winning streak of six or more games.

Filip Forsberg leads Nashville in goals (29), assists (41) and points (70).

Justus Annunen and Juuse Saros have shared the goalkeepers in the past six weeks, so Annunen will probably play on Tuesday because Saros is confronted in Montreal. Annunen has 2.97 goals against the average and a percentage of 0.896 percent in 21 games since Nashville acquired the goalkeeper in a trade in the Colorado Avalanche on November 30th.

Ilya Sorokin will probably be in the opposing network, as the islanders continue to run with their starting goalkeeper for these critical games of the late season. Sorokin played well in his last 13 games and played with 2.50 GAA and a percentage of 0.914 saving with 7: 4: 2.

Bo Horvat leads the islanders to Assists (27) and points (53), while Lee leads the club with 27 goals.

The Predators are 5-0: 0 in their last five home games against the islanders, who go back to the 2017/18 season.
