    The Karnataka High Court has instructed companies to offer app-based taxi services on Wednesday to stop bicycle taxi services in the state. The court said that these companies should hire their services within 6 weeks. The court said that bicycle staxi can only run if the state government notifies suitable guidelines according to the motor vehicle. A single bank from the judiciary BM Shyam Prasad instructed the state government to ensure that the operation of bicycle staxi is stopped within the specified time.

    Companies had pushed the court’s door

    In fact, companies such as Ola, Uber and Rapido, who offer a bicycle taxi service, had beaten the High Court door. These companies had asked the court to instruct the state government to prepare a guideline for the management of bicycle staxi. In the petitions, the companies had requested the granting of aggregator licenses and the registration of bicycle taxis as transport services. Now the High Court has instructed the bicycle taxi operators to stop operating within 6 weeks. The court also instructed the state government to prepare guidelines in this regard. Judge Shyam Prasad made it clear that the court cannot instruct the state government to make rules. The Court of Justice cannot order the registration of non -transport vehicles as transport vehicles.

    Case has been running since 2021

    The government of Karnataka issued an order to ban bicycle taxi services on July 14, 2021. After that, the court had temporarily held the government from taking measures on these platforms. This relief granted by the court continues to this day, which means that Rapido continues to operate a bike taxis.
