The Texas Rangers will continue to lean on their Bullpen because they are aiming for their fifth victory in a row on Sunday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays in Arlington, Texas.
The Rangers are a game from a series after holding the Rays 6-4 on Saturday. Jacob Degrom allowed four deserved runs to bind the game and left in the sixth inning, but Wyatt Langford blew up in the seventh Homerun with two runs.
“These boys, we have a good group there,” said Degrom after the game. “As we have already said, everyone was trying to do their part. I tried to get ourselves to win. The game was bound, but then the offense goes out and does what they do. It is impressive. Everyone is trying to pick up each other and go forward, and the bullpen has done a great job to close it.”
The selection of the Bullpen on Saturday consisted of Jacob Webb, Robert Garcia, Chris Martin and Luke Jackson. While WebB was marked with a blown memory when a double achieved a runner he had inherited from Degrom, the helper’s quartet did not give up a deserved run.
Texas relievers only achieved two runs during the four-game winning shop. The rangers bullpen has a 3.12 ERA, the 10th in the majors, and they are responsible for three victories. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers have more.
“You did a really good job to pick up each other,” said manager Bruce Bochy after Texas won the start of the series on Friday. “I said it was a little fluid down there if I used them. … They all go in, throw strikes and do their thing.”
For the Rays, Brandon Lowe hit his third Homer of the year and Jonathan Aranda added his first to the defeat on Saturday, the third in the team.
Lowe climbed the list of rays of all time with his long ball and passed Aubrey Huff for third place in franchise history with 129 career homers.
“It’s cool. We passed some really big boys and some people who have played for a very long time,” said Lowe. “It is a really great thing to be on this list in general, but there is still a lot of work to do.”
He resigns Evan Longoria (261) and Carlos Pena (163).
Tampa Bay will try to recover by sending Drew Rasmussen (1: 0, 0.00 ERA) into the hill against the Kumar rocker of the Rangers (0: 1, 18.00) in a battle of the right-handers.
Rasmussen opened his season on March 31 with five innings with a shutout ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He scattered two goals, hit four and didn’t work.
It was Rasmussen’s first start, which has not counted “Opener” strike since May 11, 2023 before undertooking his third great elbow surgery.
“He is committed to the strike zone as much as everyone,” said Ray’s manager Kevin Cash on March 31. “I think he knows that he can get out with the best in the zone.”
In his only career start against Texas, Rasmussen was sentenced to one loss for five runs with five goals in three innings.
Rocker will compete in his career Tampa Bay for the first time. On March 31, he gave up six runs with seven goals in three Innerings with 14: 3 against the Cincinnati Reds.
