The United States will be the guest nation of women’s women, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Thursday.
Infantino also announced that the global football competition 2035 will take place in the United Kingdom.
The United States made the only offer for 2031, while the joint offer from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland was the only “valid” offer for 2035, Infantino told the UEFA Congress in Belgrade.
Infantino said that the United States’ bid could “potentially” include other Concacaf members.
“The path is for the world championship of women in some great countries and a few great nations to improve women’s football movement even more,” he said.
Technically speaking, the offers must be officially approved in a vote at the FIFA congress next year, but this seems to be an above conclusion with no other valid bidder.
The United States previously organized the Women’s World Cup in 1999 and 2003. Great Britain is being held for the first time.
“It is an honor for us to be the only bidder for the Women’s World Championship 2035. The first FIFA World Championship since 1966 with our home nations partners will be something very special. The hard work now begins to put together the best possible offer by the end of the year,” said Mark, CEO of England Fa, Mark Bullingham, in a statement.
The 2027 World Cup takes place in Brazil with 32 teams and 64 games from June 24th to July 25th.
Spain is the defending champion after breaking through in Australia and New Zealand for his first Women World Cup title in 2023.
The 2031 Women’s World Cup will expand to 48 teams.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11th to July 19th.
